I. Introduction

Microelectronics Science and Engineering is an emerging interdisciplinary subject based on semiconductor physics and micro-nano electronics and based on large-scale integrated circuit chip design and manufacturing technology. It involves four closely related secondary disciplines: physical electronics, circuits and systems, microelectronics and solid-state electronics, electromagnetic fields and microwave technology. At the same time, it is integrated with the first-level disciplines such as control science and engineering, computer science and technology, software engineering, and physics. Micro-nanoelectronics is the forerunner and foundation of electronic science and information science and technology in the 21st century. It is an important foundation for the development of modern high-tech and the modernization of the national economy. It mainly studies the physical and functional electronic materials of semiconductor devices, solid electronic devices, Very Large Scale Integration design and manufacturing technology (VLSI), micromechanical electronic systems, and computer-aided design and manufacturing technologies.

This major develops a solid and broad basic theory and systematic in-depth expertise in microelectronics science and engineering disciplines, gains an in-depth understanding of the progress, trends and latest developments of the discipline, and is familiar with computer engineering, communication engineering, electronic information engineering, physics, etc. The basic theory and knowledge of the discipline, with senior professionals who are independent in the ability and practical ability of microelectronics science and engineering and related interdisciplinary creative scientific research.

Currently there are 12 professors and 11 associate professors in the IC engineering department. Based on the national IC talent training center, the "Embedded System" 985 platform, and the key laboratory of "Embedded Systems and Computing Services", Ministry of Education, this department provides strong support to personnel training and scientific research. In recent years, it has undertaken various provincial and ministerial scientific research projects and more than 30 national projects, including the 863 projects, science and technology support programs, projects from the National Natural Science Foundation of China. The researchers have published more than 200 papers in the academic journals, including over 60 SCI indexed articles, more than 100 EI indexed articles. In addition, 30 patents have been granted.

II. Objectives

1.Master the solid and broad basic theory and systematic in-depth expertise in the field ofMicroelectronics Science and Engineering, and be familiar with the dynamics and progress of international frontier research in this discipline.

2.Have the ability of writing academic papers and international academic communication; have rigorous scientific research style, good spirit of cooperation and strong communication skills.

3.Have the ability to independently and creatively engage in and make achievements from scientific research or expertise, become an industry elite in the field ofMicroelectronics Science and Engineering.

IV. Credit Requirements

Ph.D. students should complete at least 18 credits, including 4 credits for public degree courses, 4 credits for the professional degree courses, 2 credits for the non-degree courses, and 8 credits for the compulsory courses (including 1 credit for dissertation topic selection, 1 credit for the graduate students' academic behavior norms, 2 credits for The Tongji advanced lectures,3 credits for the mid-term assessment and 1 credit for academic reporting conference on the phase achievement of the dissertation.

V. Qualifications

1. Non-Chinese citizen in good health both mentally and physically.

2. Applicants for Ph.D. program should have a Master degree.

3. Applicant must stay in good academic standing.

4. All international students applying from non-English speaking countries should have good English proficiency.

VI. Application Materials

1. Application Form for International Students of Tongji University (2 copies).

2. A photocopy of passport (Personal Information Page).

3. Electronic copy of original graduate certificate and degree certificate. If the certificates are not in Chinese or English, the original notarized translated versions must be submitted.

* The certificates should be notarized by local Chinese Embassy or local Chinese Consulates (or foreign embassies or consulates in China). Degree certificate is required to be verified; and original or notarized documents related to the degree certificate must be submitted at the registration.

4. Electronic copy of original or notarized academic transcripts of the MA program. If the academic transcripts are not in Chinese or English, the electronic copy of original notarized translated document must be submitted.

* The transcript should be notarized by local Chinese Embassy or local Chinese Consulates (or foreign embassies or consulates in China). The original or notarized documents of the transcript must be submitted at the registration.

5. International students from non-English speaking countries:The electronic copy of language proficiency certificate. TOEFL (minimum 80/120) or IELTS (minimum 6). The certificate should be valid when submitted.

6. Original recommendation letters from two professors or associate professors (contact information is necessary).

7. Personal statement. Around 1500 words for doctoral candidates, in English. Study and work experience, academic research achievement, planned research proposal and personal prospect after graduation should be included.

8. Catalogue and abstract of published papers, and other documents that can prove academic ability.
