About Tongji University

Tongji University is one of the leading universities in China. Found in 1907, Tongji is now a comprehensive, international, research-oriented university with distinct features and global influence and will celebrate its 110 anniversary in 2017.

In 2013, Tongji proposed its vision to be a “sustainability-oriented world-class university”. The university now registers 17 228 full time undergraduate students, 13 864 graduate students, and 4 714 PhD candidates.

Tongji University attaches importance to internationalization, and has cooperated with more than 200 partners in Germany, France, UK, USA, Japan, Canada, Italy, Spain and Finland in fields of education and research. Since 70's of last century, it makes great efforts in developing international students' education with 3814 international students studying in Tongji University in 2016, of which about 50% students seeking for degree studies.

Our Goals

With the process of the social development and economy growth in the world, the importance of the transportation engineering in the national economy has highlighted. Due to the characteristics such as energy conservation, environmental protection, safety, comfort and large capacity, the railway and urban mass transit has gradually been developing as the main form of the ground public transportation in the future comprehensive transport network, its construction and development has broad and long-term prospects.

The Master degree Program of Transportation Engineering was launched in 2016 and welcomed its first intake at the same year with the strong support of international academic partners and Chinese industrial partners of Tongji University.

The Program will benefit from the faculty and excellent resources of Tongji University (China), Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées (ENPC, France; the first engineering school in France and one of the top grande école), University of Illinois Champaign (UIUC, USA; one of the top engineering universities in USA) and University of Huddersfield (UK). The outstanding Rail Test Line and combined experiment laboratory of Tongji University will strongly support the Program. And the well-known enterprises (CRRC, CRCC, Siemens, Alstom, RATP, Shanghai Railway Bureau, Shanghai Shentong Group, Hong Kong Subway, etc.) will provide internship opportunities, scholarships, lectures and other sponsoring.

Duration: 2.5 years in total (courses, internship, dissertation of thesis, etc.)

Degree: Master degree of Transportation Engineering, Tongji University

Tuition: 40,000 RMB/year (100,000 RMB in total)

Accommodation: Jiading campus of Tongji University or Self-care Accommodation

Validation of the degree

l Credits: not less than 32 credits

l Thesis:

The research proposal of the thesis for master degree will be chosen before the end of the second semester of the first academic year. The redaction of thesis and the related research work should be done according to the standards of Tongji University and of the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China. The Master degree of Tongji University will be granted to the students who will have passed their thesis defense.

Requirements and Application

Background & Language

l Background: Bachelor of Science or Engineering

l Language:

◆ For English native speakers: no specific requirements

◆ For Non-English native speakers: fluent in reading, writing and speaking with 80 or above for TOEFL, 6.0 or above for IELTS, or other English level certificates

Timetable

The application will be open from 15th March to 30th May 2017.

l Admission letter posted by Tongji University: at the beginning of July 2017

l Registration : September 2017 (date to be informed in the admission letter)

Scholarship

1. Chinese Government Scholarship

Will cover:

l Fees on registration, tuition, laboratory experiment, internship and accommodations;

l Living allowance (3000RMB/month)

l Comprehensive medical Insurance and Benefit Plan for international students in China;

Application:

1) Consult the relative information from the item of "Study in china / Chinese Government Scholarship" on the homepage of the China Scholarship Council (www.csc.edu.cn)

2) Submit the application form online first at http://laihua.csc.edu.cn and then submit the printed version and the supporting documents required by Tongji University to the International Student Office before 15th March 2017.

2. Shanghai Municipal Government Scholarship

A Scholarship: For excellent prospective students applying for master or doctoral degree programs

Will cover :

l Fees of tuition, accommodation, serious disease and accidental Injury Insurance;

l Living allowance (3000RMB/month)

B Scholarship: For excellent prospective students applying for master or doctoral degree programs.

Will cover :

l Fees for tuition, serious disease and accidental Injury Insurance, expenses of basic study materials

Application:

1) Fill in and submit the application form online first at http://study-info.tongji.edu.cn and www.study-shanghai.org, and then submit the printed version with the following materials.

2) The Application Form (including application materials mentioned above) and registration fee (410RMB) must be paid to the International Student Office of Tongji University before April 15.

3. Chinese Enterprise Scholarship

For excellent students recommended by Tongji University and selected by Chinese Enterprises.

Will cover :

l Fees of tuition, accommodation, serious disease and accidental Injury Insurance;

l Living allowance (amount to be decided by the sponsoring company)

Application:

1) Fill in and submit the application form online first at http://study-info.tongji.edu.cn and then submit the printed version with the following materials.

2) The Application Form (including application materials mentioned above) and registration fee (410RMB) must be paid to the International Student Office of Tongji University before April 15.

3) Tongji University will recommend the potential candidates to the Chinese industrial partners and will inform the selected candidates by e-mail or by oral before or after sending the admission letter of Tongji University for studying in this Program.
