To celebrate the 102nd anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, 30 international students from 25 countries, such as Germany, Hungary, and Malaysia, gathered in Lucun Village, Huzhou City, Zhejiang Province, on July 1.
Our international students visited the Farmers' Association Memorial Hall in Wuxing County and experienced the revolutionary heritage of this ancient village. They strolled along the water street, observing China's new rural construction. They appreciated the "Riverside Scene at Qingming Festival in Jiangnan" in streets along the water. They also experienced pottery molding and fan painting to learn about the fascinating Chinese porcelain culture and the knowledge about silkworms and silk weaving. Finally, they visited the "China in the Classics" exhibition hall, where they were immersed in classic Chinese culture by conducting activities such as Chinese poetry quizzes and dressing up in traditional Chinese costumes in VR.
Lucun Village is located in the southwestern part of Balidian Town, Wuxing District, Huzhou City, Zhejiang Province. It is a model village for Zhejiang Province's "Hundred Dual-Strength Villages" program. The Qianshanyang Relic Site in the village was honored as the "Source of Silk in the World" in 2015.
Additionally, the international students visited the Nanxun Ancient Town on July 2 to learn how the Huzhou brush pen is made. The Four Treasures of the Study in Chinese culture include a brush pen, an ink stick, paper, and an inkstone. The Huzhou brush pen boasts the best quality and is therefore included in the National Intangible Cultural Heritage list. The international students marveled at China's history, culture, and traditional crafts.
Every year, the International Students Office at Tongji University organizes cultural study tours to other parts of China for international students from different countries. We aim to give them a more comprehensive and insightful understanding of China through city visits, cultural explorations, interactive exchanges, article writing, and video filming. Through these efforts, we seek to build a new educational model for Tongji University to help international students become both virtuous and talented individuals.
