On October 10, Liu Run, Deputy Party Secretary of Tongji University, led a delegation to Huangshan City, Anhui Province, to attend the working consultation meeting between the Huangshan Municipal Government and Tongji University, as well as the inauguration ceremony for the “Sensing China” Huangshan Base. Liu Li, Vice Mayor of Huangshan City, attended the meeting and delivered a speech. Representatives from Tongji University’s Foreign Affairs Office, International Students Office, and the National Institute of Innovation and Development, together with officials from the Huangshan Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism, the Education Bureau, the Foreign Affairs Office, She County and Yi County, also participated in the event.

During the meeting, both sides held in-depth discussions on the inclusion of Yi County’s Hongcun Village and She County’s Hukaiwen Ink Factory as “Sensing China” Practice Bases for 2025, approved by the China Scholarship Council. The meeting noted that Tongji University and Huangshan City have long maintained a strong foundation for cooperation. Moving forward, leveraging Tongji University’s strengths in international education and global outreach, both sides will work together to establish a cultural experience platform for international students to explore fine traditional Chinese culture. This initiative aims to further enhance Huangshan’s international influence in education and cultural exchange, spread the “Voice of Huangshan,” and tell the “Chinese story” well. The two sides also conducted pragmatic discussions on issues such as strengthening consulting services, promoting Huangshan’s cultural and tourism resources overseas, organizing international students to participate in volunteer teaching programs, and developing high-quality student source bases. Multiple areas of consensus were reached during the meeting.

After the meeting, the inauguration ceremony of the Tongji University’s “Sensing China” Huangshan Base was held at the Hukaiwen Ink Factory in She County. In May 2025, the base was successfully selected as one of the China Scholarship Council’s “Sensing China” Practice Bases for 2025. Located in Hongcun Village and the Hukaiwen Ink Factory, it is Tongji’s first practice base in Anhui Province for international students, marking a breakthrough from zero to one. It aims to help international students gain a deeper understanding of Huizhou culture and appreciate the beauty of traditional Chinese craftsmanship through cultural study, social practice, and volunteer teaching activities.

Looking ahead, Tongji University and Huangshan City will continue to expand cooperation in education, culture, and scientific research, encouraging more international students to conduct social practice, volunteer teaching, and cultural exchange in Huangshan. These efforts seek to attract more international young people to visit Huizhou, understand China, and sense China. Tongji University will continue to give full play to its international education advantages and disciplinary strengths, working hand in hand with Huangshan City to build a new platform for mutual learning and exchange between Chinese and foreign cultures, contributing “Tongji wisdom” and “Huangshan strength” to the global dissemination of Chinese culture.
