In the golden September, more than 1,700 international freshmen from over 130 countries and regions arrived at Tongji University, embarking on a new chapter of academic and personal growth in China.

At the orientation site, teachers and volunteers warmly greeted each new arrival. With multilingual guidance, attentive services, and welcoming smiles, international students quickly found themselves at ease in their new environment. Across campus, the vibrant mix of youthful faces and colorful luggage painted a vivid picture of multicultural harmony. This year’s orientation emphasized not only efficiency but also humanistic care and cultural integration. The university upgraded its digital and intelligent service processes, allowing students to swiftly complete registration, medical examinations, and the issuance of bank and campus cards. Sustainability was also woven into the experience: paperless admissions and fully electronic procedures formed the “first lesson” for freshmen, reflecting Tongji’s commitment to green development.

Two special “welcome gifts” were also prepared for this year’s freshmen. The first, Explore Yangpu, a guidebook curated by the Yangpu District Culture and Tourism Bureau, introduces local cultural landmarks, culinary highlights, and community life, encouraging students to explore beyond campus and experience the distinctive charm of Shanghai culture. The second, Study in China, compiled by the Exit and Entry Administration Bureau of Shanghai Public Security Bureau, provides practical information on visas, daily life, and essential services to support students’ studies in China.

University officials emphasized that, guided by the principles of internationalization, digitalization, and humanization, Tongji will continue to provide international students with high-quality educational resources and comprehensive support, ensuring a fulfilling, dynamic, and meaningful academic journey.
